Why a non-bank national brokerage is best for you
In Canada, the five major banks dominate the financial services marketplace.
Serving their agenda of maximizing bank profits, they often provide cookie-cutter products offered by under-trained professionals through a sales culture relationship. They sell you their products rather than providing broad independent choices even if their products are inferior. Some of their product costs are the highest in Canada. Some of their GIC rates for interest-bearing securities are the lowest around. They rarely ask about your goals. The relationship you have with your bank still is, and has always been, transactional with hidden fees.
